Competition brings out the best in products & the worst in people- David Sarnoff

Is the above true?
There has never been a more common topic to ponder about - Competition, is it good or bad? Well not too sure if it is a debatable topic, but however would like to add my own thoughts and would love to hear different opinions.......

Competition is good, it makes you strive hard and stresses you out even more, but still as we are told its good…….

I am not too sure if I like competitions, contests a lot myself, however, having said that, something inside always urges me on to participate but only willingly, not particularly ecstatic if someone were to say, ‘Ok here’s the deal u have been selected but you gotta fight for the position with 2/3 or maybe only 1 person.’ I cringe and wish I wasn’t even selected.

So does that mean I am not competitive? Maybe yes…but does that make me a weak person not wanting to be challenged or a person suffering from an elevated ego :-) ??? I don’t know….

Taking a different track, let me agree that competition is good, but what about the stress that comes with it? Is that alright? Or would you say, its all part of the game…..

Is competition the only way to reach the top? As someone has said, you win some and you lose some. Still trying to find some answers........

Hey Trina,

I finally checked out your blog today! Was too busy this entire week with work.

As for the quote, I'm afraid I don't quite agree. Somehow since early childhood, the word 'competition' used to turn me off. Some folks take it quite seriously as a chance to 'prove' themselves... well, I've never strived hard to prove myself to anyone, not even myself. Laziness always got the better of me.

But yeah, as I grow older, competitions are fun. It is something out of the routine, and most people around me have grown above that mindset. There's a certain joy in laughing at yourself when you lose. :-) So as long I don't have to compete with serious bears, I do tend to participate for the fun of it.

Btw, you can find my blog of 4+ years here. Although, you can only see the 'open' entries. To view, "friend's only" posts, you will need a livejournal id, which I will add to my friend's list. Let me know if you get one. :-)

I agree, competitions should be more fun, but sometimes the 'proving' bit does get to me big time....
