While watching a movie today these thoughts surfaced and therefore the post.
The scene was between a guy and his aunt. They shared a very open and friendly relationship. The guy was around in his mid thirties. He said something to his aunt which could be termed as crossing the line. So in such a case did he really cross the line? I mean who decides that? One moment two people are the best of buddies and then BOOM......everything changes at the spur of the moment.
So what does crossing the line mean? How do we know that we've done it. More than often we are always made aware of it by the other person.
In my humble opinion in some cases it is very obvious while at the other times it's just a bad case of timing. We could have caught the person at the wrong time. Another common issue is humour - We go to the extent of no return or think the other person will not mind our goofy comments. What remains to stand is - The intention was never to hurt and spoil a good relationship.
Sorry to all if I've ever crossed the line!

Self opinionated, derogatory remarks & being judgmental can spoil relationship/s. One must be extremely comfortable with the relationship before saying something & a suggestion here from my side would be to ask permission before saying something which you feel could be termed as 'crossing the line'
But I totally agree that there are things one should not talk unless one is ABSOLUTELY sure of the relationship.
I agree totally with you. Thanks for the input.
