Classical afternoon

Another 'classic' ( very unintentional) afternoon. I attended a Sarod Recital accompanied by Tabla . It was an amazing new experience and the sounds are still fresh in my mind.

This was part of the Winter Concerts 2008 currently running in the city. Soumik Datta ( student of Pt. Buddhadev Dasgupta) played the Sarod while on the Rayatt tabla was Gurdain Singh. ( student of Pt. Shankar Ghosh)

It was inside a church which I think further added onto the soothing ambiance. The show was for an hour and how I wished it went on for some more time. It was pretty tough to get back to 'work mode' especially since I was so relaxed and felt ultra musical.

Few pics from the afternoon.

Combination of the quiet opulence of a Church ambiance with age-old musical instrumental tunes of the East must sure have had an ethereal quality ...... which you must have experienced.

How different is a basic or regular tabla to that of Rayatt tabla which you have mentioned?

Well, to be honest didi I have no idea about the difference. It could be a gharana am told by Amit.
