A Tribute

While speaking to mum today, she mentioned that it would have been Satyajit Ray’s 86th birthday, had he been alive. I guess they were celebrating him, by showing his films and she was talking about how she loved ‘Panther Panchali’ yet again :-) and cried too.
Incidentally I was watching another of his classic yesterday ‘Agantuk’- The Stranger. It’s one of my personal favourites.

A very apt quote comes to mind while talking about the legend, Satyajit Ray :Death is more universal than life; everyone dies but not everyone lives. - A. Sachs

Happy Birthday to a genius…..

Nice one...

The only Indian to get a Lifetime Achievement Oscar for his work.

still remember seeing pather panchali, & amazed at how he managed to frame the shots so well at that time. obviously i saw it with subtitles & i loved it. Now that u've said it, i'll manage to see agantuk too.

I liked most of Ray's works...all the movies I watched. Loved Shonar Killa and the Apu trilogy. Those are powerful cinematic works, man! Now I have to see Agantuk too. Thanks for writing about him.

Talking about Satyajit Ray, i always admire his films. Now, even my 2 year old son enjoy every moment of his Gupi Gyan Bagha byan, Sonar kella, and Hirok raja r deshe. Thank him, he made such kids films as those films made Soham eat lunch and dinner well each day..lol:)
Great Trina, keep writing on such topics, i love this.

Gr8 tribute to The Ray of Indian Cinema.

Have seen few of his Bengali films & was amazed by the natural antics so well caught & shown on the screen.

Well thought tribute!

hmmm.. nice post this! reminds me of the time when I really wanted to learn Bengali to appreciate the literature and art in its full glory. I still want to, but the lack of means has dulled my ambition a little. :( One of the things I wanted to do most was watching Satyajit Ray's movies without subtitles and read Tagore's stories in Bengali. Since, I've already resorted to reading the english translations for the stories, maybe I shd look out for subtitled movies of Ray and at least partially fulfill my wish. But it's no compensation, I tell ya! :(
